HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT TAILGATE
Tailgating is a time-honored tradition at every polo match. Here is everything you need to know to pull off the ultimate setup.
Gates open bright and early at 8:00 AM on match day, giving you plenty of time to set up your space comfortably. Just remember that all vehicles must be relocated to the general parking area by noon.
Festive Linens: Dress up your table with anything you have on hand—even a vintage horse blanket or small rug makes a great statement piece.
Play with Height: Use trays and stands to stagger your food and drink displays for maximum visual appeal.
Classy Touches: Pair casual paper plates with polished silver serving pieces and pretty utensils.
Keep Pests Away: Use food domes and mesh covers to keep your spread bug-free and shaded.
Tailgate Contest: Have your space ready before the whistle blows! Judges walk the grounds during the first half, and the winner is crowned at halftime.
Comfortable Seating:Bring folding chairs, lawn blankets, and cushions for a cozy atmosphere.
Setup Essentials:Don’t forget folding tables, tablecloths, and pop-up tent that fits within your tailgate space.
Food & Drinks:Bring Your Own (BYO) food and beverage, or buy them at the event! Pack finger foods, light sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie boards, and fresh fruit. Avoid messy or overly complicated dishes. Bring a variety of drinks including sparkling water, lemonade, and iced tea.
Ice:Always pack more ice than you think you’ll need! Whether it’s for chilling drinks or keeping food fresh, extra ice is essential.
Supplies:Include cups, plates, cutlery, serving utensils, napkins, food containers, and a trash bag for clean-up.
Smart Casual Attire: Strike the right balance between comfort and style with smart casual wear. Popular choices include breezy sundresses, classic polo shirts, and tailored khakis.
Grass-Friendly Footwear: Opt for comfortable shoes that can easily handle walking across grassy terrain—think wedges, flats, loafers, or stylish sneakers.
Hat Contests: Bring your style A-game for this year's hat contest! Show off your most creative and fashionable headwear to compete for prizes announced at halftime.
Safety Zone: Please remember to keep a safe distance of at least 20 feet from the boards at all times.
Paws Welcome: Well-behaved dogs are more than welcome to join the fun! Just ensure they remain leashed at all times and that you promptly clean up after them.
Field Respect: Help us keep the grounds pristine by utilizing the trash cans located near each tailgate space and thoroughly cleaning up your area before you leave.
